The day!. Our wedding day: Preparations. / El día de nuestra boda: Los Preparativos.

Before continuing, you should read "The day!. Our wedding day: Prelude." If you have not read already.

After our journey to Cozumel, we had a clear idea about how our wedding will be, where our guest will stay after the wedding, the wedding courses and cake flavour and so on.

We had lot of work to do before the big day, we had to look for our wedding bands, book for our honey moon and make some arrangements for a special surprise to my fiancé, but about that I will write later on this post. We hired de services of a dance studio called "El Baile de tu Boda", where Humberto Fabris will help us to learn how to dance and mount something special for our wedding jig.

We had just four months to make the final arrangements for our day and my fiancé had no wedding dress yet, so she went to Mexico City Centre to look for it, but what I did not know was that she had already chosen a wedding dress a few weeks ago and she just went to the boutique to try it on so as to get it ready for December. In my case, being a man is easy when we look for a suit or smoking, so that, I decided to look for it in November, I knew already where to go in order to choose it.

For the wedding bands we went to the City Centre because there are lots of jewellery venues where we can choose from a wide diversity, so, we set Metro Constitucion underground station as our meeting point in order to seek our perfect rings.

Firstly, we started our search at Bizarro, my girlfriend liked some pieces from there, but few of those liked me either, so that, we continue on the next venue and so on.

Tired and exhausted we were when suddenly, we found them, the perfect rings, we liked so much. So, we asked to the jewellery's front office attendant for the price and how much time will take to make a new ones. The attendant told us that will be ready just in one month, so, we paid an advance for the bands and agreed with the attendant to pay the difference when the rings were ready.

We were happy about all this journey, the bands, the wedding, the new experience, everything was new for us and we were traveling together in the same boat sailing through the vast ocean of life, tackling any situation not as two people but as one.

Meanwhilst, we were tuning some details and one of those was to set up our wedding's gift list, after a long argument between us, we decided that for our guest will be easy to choose a gift from the list or simply take another one from the mall and the assistants will manage its storage and delivery and our guests will not worry about traveling with our presents to Cozumel and for us to return to México overburden with gifts. So that, we went to El Palacio de Hierro to set up our list, that by the way was really fun.

Firstly, we went to the city centre and then to "El Palacio de Hierro" Mall where we walked to the first floor through the electric ladders and asked for Wedding Services Department, so, an attendant from the mall instructed us where it was.

Waiting for an assistant we were at WSD when suddenly a girl showed up and asked us to follow her to her office so as to explain us how the gift list works at El Palacio.

So, she described three types of gift's list, "la entregable", "la no entregable" y "el monedero".

Basically "la entregable" is the common or the classic one. She mean, you choose any merchandise from the mall as a gift suggestion and after a month or two, the list closes and all the stuff that were bought by the guests is delivered to the provided address.

The "no enregable" is totally the opposite from "la entregable". You choose your stuff but you have to claim your gifts at WSD on the mall.

And the last but not the least is "el monedero", you simply buy a gift card with some credit that can be used to buy anything on the mall.

So, after a little mind speaking we decided to choose the classic gift's list, so that, we take a look around the mall in order to set some gift suggestions.

Our gift list was set, we already knew where our guests will stay and which flight will take them to Cancun. So, it was time to visit "Historias en Papel", that is a business dedicated to create original and creative invitations and cards for any kind of event.

So, we arrived and asked on the front desk for someone who could help us with our invitations, and then we showed the discount ticket we got at "Expo tu Boda". Thus, a girl called the manager who kindly introduced herself as our personal assistant. She was pretty amiable and helpful, she took us to a calmly place where we could speak our minds about our wedding invitations, so that, she took some sample books from the shelfs to show us some invitations, font styles, paper types and even some predefined text and quotes. We were fascinated with all that stuff and was hard to decide, but in spite of that, we choose a card that seems to be made of wooden sheets on a plaid pattern and a small orange coloured dehydrated sea-start in the middle of the card, for us, it was gorgeous. Then decided about the invitation cover, for that we selected a tiny flat box to put in our invitation, followed by colours, fonts and text for both (the box and the invitation).

We were almost set with our wedding invitations. Nevertheless, the guest list, maps and addresses were missing already, but just in a few days surely will be.

The following days I worked to finalise with the maps for the invitation and coordinate the delivery for the tequila bottles we bought at "Expo tu boda". Fortunately delivery consisted of only a phone call to provide the address where the bottles will be delivered and when.

At the beginning of September we were delivering the missing maps, addresses and at last the ultimate guest list to our assistant from Historias en Papel who kindly reminded us that our invitations will be ready in just one week, such a great service!.

Meanwhilst at my Job, our CTO (Chief Technology Officer) announced that he will resign by December, obviously all were pretty surprised by the fact that surely we will have lots of extra work to do in order to solve any issue before he leaves.

In October we ordered 50 hot-air balloons and some wireless led lamps from Globos de Luz. We will use the balloons as the midnight attraction for our guest and the led lamps to illuminate the Chinese lamps that we will buy so as to decorate the main hut's ceiling. The delivery was fast and like a promotion they included a heart-shaped balloon, all our stuff was undamaged and in excellent conditions.

About our dance classes, we were doing great and we started doing the dance steps for our wedding, this was a secret yet, because our friends and rellies did not know anything about it, they knew we could not dance.

In November we had lots of things to do because we have merely one month for our big day and some things were still missing, like chinese lamps, my wedding suit, send some stuff to Cozumel and so on. So, we spent the first weekend of the month to find the best deal for chinese lamps at the city centre and chinatown, being the last one where we found the best offers. So that, we bought roughly 180 lamps in different sizes to decorate and illuminate the place where our main celebration will take place.

The next weekend I went to Camasha Guayaberas to look for my groom's suit, Camasha is a place where you can find wearables to use at the beach, from shirts to full wardrobes and even shoes. I met with my parents there so as to share that unique moment on a man's life and either because I needed help to choose the best suit that fits me.

So, when we arrived the store was still closed, we arrived a few minutes earlier than expected, so that, we waited until aperture time at 11:00 in the morning.

Then an elder lady arrived at the store and open the main door.

- "Good morning!", she said.
- "Are you waiting to get in?", she asked.
- "Yes, we are", we replied.
- "That is great, it will take me some minutes to start with business", the lady happily notified us.

So, we waited for some minutes until one of the attendants opened the doors to start business, then we walked through the main door and all the staff welcomed us to the store.

The elder lady who attended us at the beginning introduced herself as the owner of the place and informed us that she will be our assistant, so, she asked about what we were looking for.

-"I am going to marry at Cozumel on December the 15th and I am looking a suit that fits with occasion.", I commented her excited.

She was pretty amiable and showed us a variety of suits, her wardrobe was extensive, and I choose some that liked me the most, indeed, my dad was impressed about the extensive collection and decided to try some too.

Few hour later we left the venue with "The Suit". A Sand Coloured Trousers and its Blazer, a white wool shirt, a brown belt and shoes and a white trilby hat, that day we were done with "The Suit". My father's suit needed some tailoring so that he needed to return one week to pick it up.

The next week we went to the city centre again so as to find some stuff we needed, like some candles and decoration goods to sent it along with some remaining stuff to Cozumel.

Finally December started, so that we needed to check for bookings on the flights and hotels and some other last preparations so as to leave our home town and get into one of the great journeys of our lives and we were just a week behind the big day, December the 15th, but, in order to get all the things ready, we had to leave Mexico City on December the 13th.

This is the end of this post, yet not of the story, so that do not forget to look forward the next post "The day!. Our wedding day: Let's Celebrate!"

February 19, 2015

The day!. Our wedding day: Prelude. / El dia de nuestra boda: El Comienzo.

Once upon a time a woman and a man, who started an adventure, roughly 11 years ago. But one day they decided instead of being just two persons apart, to be like one together...

Yes, around 11 years ago my wife Diana and I started dating hopping that one day we will be married, it sounds like a fairy tale isn't it?, well, it is not a fairy tale, it is merely the real life.

Whether you have followed since our blog was released, you should know that in March of 2010, I proposed marriage to my wife, and since then we try to set our wedding day, but lots of things happened...

Remembering, was in February of 2011 when we attended "Expo tu Boda" event at World Trade Centre Mexico City, the place was full of stuff related to weddings, dresses, tuxedos, wedding venues, ballrooms and so on, all from the modest to the luxurious ones.

After having a look arround, finally we find wedding venues at the beach, then, suddenly my mind flew away, to Cancun when I propose my wife to marry me.

-Would be great to celebrate our wedding in Cancun, isn't it? I asked Diana.
-Yes, would be great, but surely is out of our budget, she answered.
-Let's have a look around, maybe we are lucky and find something, I replied.

We were asking on every stand when finally we find it, the perfect place for our wedding, it was not in Cancun but was close to there, just in Cozumel, to be precise on an Island called "La Isla de la Pasion", it was just beautiful. We asked some questions about the place for the religious ceremony, they answer us that there is a little chapel on the island to perform official religious ceremonies. It was really great, so that, It was our chance by the fact that all places we asked before offered symbolic religious ceremonies at the beach, thus, we appealed for a 50 px budget and detailed info about the different wedding options.

We were surprised by the prices, not because were expensive, were the opposite, really affordable, in spite of being a private event on a private island with such a great view and white sands, there was no comparison with other places.

We took a leaflet to write all the information received and the person who attend us give us a card so as to contact him later, so, we move forward looking around.

Unfortunately, we could not continue with our wedding plans due to the passing on of my father in law, so that, we hold our plans over for a few months.

A year passed since my wife's father tragical event, then we continue with our wedding plans, so, attended again "Expo tu boda" event looking for Diamond Orchid Weddings' Stand to set up the wedding of our dreams, was when we met Yozelin, our wedding planner, who explain us what Diamond Orchid Wedding offer us when hiring them, thus, we sign the contract for a wedding on December 15th, 2012, curiously it was Saturday, just like the day I asked Diana to be my girlfriend.

We were excited, so that, we continue walking around just looking for stuff we will surely going to need.

We find a stand with tequila bottles with customised labels, so we asked the person in charge and she commented us that all tequila bottles were unique due to the mere fact that they create tequila for the amount of bottles we need, no more, so that, breed was unique, then we bought 2 boxes with 12 bottles each one.

Looking round at invitation cards area there were a crowded stand, we walk to and what we looked at was simply amazing, lots of beautiful and impressive invitation cards, we found a model with a little box used as container, that was kinda original, so we were magically in love, then, we asked for a budget with 25 cards, fortunately they accepted the amount of cards to create due to commonly they do not, a minimum of 50 is required.

Walking along "Expo tu boda" event, we collected lot of pamphlets, leaflets, personal cards, samples and so on. we were quite happy...

A few weeks later we informed friends and rellies about our big day, so that we received lots of congratulations and good wishes, but it was just the beginning of this journey.

A traditional wedding in Mexico is composed by a religious ceremony, a civil registration that is just signing a law contract by both parts and at last but not the least the reception. In our case, we decided to add an extra ceremony a Maya Ceremony, that is the way how Maya People get married a log time ago.

In order to get married we need the approval of our local priest and before that we have to enrol into a Marriage Course issued by the local house of workship. Indeed, The Christian Church ask for some documents too, these documents are Baptism, Communion and Holy Eucharist, which are known as sacraments. In my case, I was granted with Baptism and Communion but not with Eucharist  yet, so, I had to find a christian church where I could attend a fast course. Searching on Google, I found a Christian Church Named "Nuestra Señora Aparecida del Brazil" that offered one session course so as to be granted with Holy Euchasisty, thus, I picked up the phone's handset and call them to ask for information. Then, the young lady at the other side of the phone line explained me that the coming Eucharisty day will be on June the 16th and inscriptions were open, so that, I joined for the Communion Course. Indeed, my fiancee and I enrolled for the Marriage Course at my fiancee's chapel.

Days were passing and my fiancee and I with help of our wedding planner were making some arrangements and also attending the marriage course. We have a long way to go until our wedding day.

May finally arrives and with it one of the most important wedding expos, at least for us, "Expo casate en la playa", so we come up in order to find a creative, keen and skilful photographer for our big day and to meet with Yozelin to clarify some misunderstandings. Walking along the expo and looking at all the stands we found what we believed was an inspired photographer and fortunately for us he lived in Cancun, so, after a full view on his work we decided to hire his services, thus, we have photographer.

A few minutes later we met with our wedding planner to resolve some qualms and notify her about our visit to Cozumel in order to have a look at the wedding place, choose the right dishes and the wedding's cake flavour for the big day. Our visit was planned for August the 25th to the 28th in 2012, visit that was sponsored by Melia Cozumel with 3 nights of free stay certificate and Travel Pass from Banamex with a 2x1 plane flight, so that, we will not spend too much.

After a few weeks, at last, the 17th of June arrives and with it my first Half Marathon run and later that day, holy eucharist celebration, so, I was excited. I woke up pretty early that day and wore my sports gear to run 21.095 km aside Mike one of my friends. So, we left our houses and drove to CU (Ciudad Universitaria) to take the bus that will conduct us to the competition place. Unfortunatelly, due to a terrible traffic jam and a little shower we could not arrive on time to the bus stop, we arrived too late and there were no buses, but suddenly, from no where, a bus appeared to take us to the competition place. I am not going to write deeply around this because I will publish a post about it later, thus, if you want to know whether we do not finish or we finish the competition, read it later here on my blog...

Well, after half marathon competition, I had to attend Holy Confirmation at "Nuestra Señora Aparecida del Brazil" Church, so that, my family and my fiance's family met me there. There were lots of people ringed in to celebrate such an important religious ceremony, so, at 18:00 hrs. the ceremony started and all people took their sits, it was a long ceremony for me because some hours before I ran a half marathon but, well, after 1 hr and half I finally got the Eucharisty certificate, so that, all my family and friends left the church to proceed to my fiance's to celebrate such an important event with a tasty dinner.

Some days later we completed our Marriage course and prepared a kind of spiritual retirement, it was set for July the 15th. I remember that day, it was alluring because each men of the group joined to perform a classic Mexican Serenata for our fiances, so, some men played either guitars or accordion while others, including myself, sang some romantic classic songs. At the end of the show, each one gave to his fiance a present, in my case I gave her a little crucifix that represented my faith for god. That day, we concluded our retirement with a potluck meal, there were cochinita tortas, mexican style raice, refried beans, pork cracklings dipped in green tomato sauce, boiled chicken topped with green mole and so on, everything was delicious.

After a few weeks from our spiritual retirement, August the 25th arrived with our visit to Cozumel so as to take a look at our wedding place, choose reception's dinner menu, flavour for the wedding cake and do the last arrangements with assistence of our wedding planner, this part of the journey is available on a past post named Our wedding Venue when you can review more deeply about it.

Here we conclude with this post but more details are going to be available on a second part soon....

Our Wedding Venue / El Lugar de nuestra Boda.

A few weeks ago, we traveled to Cozumel in order to have a look around at our wedding venue and figure out how to set up the decoration. Indeed, we tasted some of the available menu dishes and weeding cake flavours.

An Update / Una Actualización

Hi bloggers.

We have been a little bit busy with tons of work to do and our wedding plans, thus, writing on our blog has been a quite difficult labour. Despite that inconvenient, we are here writing the latest important events that has happened recently.

Whether you has been reading our blog, you should know that we are going to get married on December the 15th at Cozumel. We had hired a wedding planner from there who is helping us with all the wedding details. At this time we are working with the invitations, booking flights and accommodations, setting up the fireworks show, decoration and music for our wedding, thus, we need to meet with our wedding planner the last week of August.

On the other hand, in May, I did The FCEs' Assessment by Cambridge, unfortunately I could not get my certificate, so I will prepare to try it again, but now with the CAE, just wish me luck.

Also, on Sunday the 17th of June, I ran my first half marathon that was celebrated in commemoration of Fathers' Day. So, I faced the challenge so that to honor my father and in memorial of grandfathers and father-in-law, who passed on a year ago. Fortunately, I could complete the marathon just over two hours with a terrible pain on my calfs but feeling really great. Indeed, I am going to try another half marathon competition on September the 2nd, Mexicos' City Half Marathon, that is such an important international competition here in my hometown.

About our plan to move to Australia, we reckon that by now could not be possible due to the expenses we are going through, but just by now, we are not giving up.

See you then mates.

Hola Blogeros.
